COVID-19 Resources for Horse Owners

Horse owners are understandably anxious about how COVID-19 will directly impact themselves and their horses. One of the biggest questions we are receiving at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Polk County is whether or not the statewide shelter-in-place order affects horse owners who need to travel to a different location to care and feed their horses.

This is the information supplied by the NC Horse Council in regards to that concern:

There is specific recognition that animal care, including suppliers of feed and bedding, are considered essential on a federal level. and expected to continue operation. As the caretaker of your livestock, you are also considered essential and are expected to continue your care. To date, that same ruling applies to North Carolina. But states can make additional rules so please visit the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ website for more information on COVID-19.

Extension Horses has put out two incredibly helpful resources for horse owners and barn owners during these difficult times. Please feel free to share these with anyone who could benefit from them right now.
