Forest Pest Management Manual

NC State University is pleased to announce the publication of a new forest pest management manual. The manual, Forest Pest Management: A Pesticide Applicator Certification for Participating States in the Southeast, is the result of the combined efforts of Pesticide Safety Education Programs at Auburn University, Clemson University, Louisiana State University, Mississippi State University, North Carolina State University, University of Arkansas, and the University of Tennessee. The purpose of this manual is to provide updated information to pesticide applicators seeking Forest Pest Management (FPM) certification in North Carolina.

Forest Pest Management Certification Exam Transition Period and Deadlines

Pest management of forests, forest nurseries, and forest seed-producing areas in North Carolina requires certification and licensing in FPM. Prior to the publication of the new FPM manual, the North Carolina exam was based on the manual entitled Forest Pest Control: Apply Pesticides Correctly: A Guide for Commercial Applicators.

With the publication of the new FPM manual, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) has updated the certifying exam in Forest Pest Management (Category G). While transitioning to the new exam, the NCDA&CS is allowing FPM exam-takers to request the exam corresponding to the version of the manual they have purchased for a limited period of time. All exam-takers wishing to take the exam based on the prior Forest Pest Control Manual must do so no later than June 30, 2023. After this date, only the exam based on the updated FPM manual for participating Southeastern states (2023) will be available for those seeking FPM certification.
