The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added a new web page for Animal Health & Safety and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The page gathers materials, resources and guidance for industry and consumers. Information is organized by date published.
Resources for industry
Industry can find COVID-19-related resources and information covering
- animal drugs,
- animal food and
- animal devices.
The resources include a list of frequently asked questions for animal food safety and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The FAQs address the safety of animal food, animal food shortages, social distancing and business operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, and information in the event a worker tests positive for COVID-19 (available in Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese).
Resources for consumers
The FDA has Helpful Questions and Answers about Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Your Pets (available in Spanish and Simplified Chinese) in addition to resources addressing
- the food supply,
- animals and COVID-19 and
- food safety.
Resources for veterinarians
The FDA is temporarily suspending enforcement of portions of the federal veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) with regard to the Veterinary Feed Directive.
State requirements should still be considered. See the FDA Helps Facilitate Veterinarians to Provide Telemedicine During Pandemic page (available in Spanish) for more information.
