Feed Mill Biosecurity
As livestock and poultry producers become more cautious of potential viral outbreaks, it's important to acknowledge that biosecurity doesn't have to start and end at the farm.Feed mills and feed can serve as disease or viral vectors in animal production. Kansas State University (K-State) and the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) have provided a number of resources for feed mills to improve biosecurity practices.
Though the resources listed below focus on swine feed and production, many of the practices can apply to other species, such as poultry, as well.K-State Feed Mill Biosecurity Resources
- Feed Biosecurity for Swine Producers
- Feed Biosecurity for Feed Mill Managers
- Salmonella in Livestock Feed
- Reviewing the risk of feed as a vehicle for swine pathogen transmission
- A review of strategies to impact swine feed biosecurity
